Hitting the open road in your RV is a thrilling experience, but the boom in RV campers has made it challenging to find an open site at many campgrounds. Going off the grid is a great way to make use of your RV without the hassle and crowd of staying at popular campground sites. Off-the-grid camping comes with a unique set of challenges, but the good news is that Jayco’s solar-prepped RVs make it much easier to camp off the beaten path.
The company’s Overlander solar packages come in four variations. The Overlander 1 system has a 200-watt solar panel and a 30-amp digital solar controller. It’s available for the Jay Flight and Jay Feather products.
The Overlander 2 package features two 200-watt panels, a 30-amp MPPT RV-C solar controller, and a 1,800-watt RV-C inverter. Jayco offers it for the Feather, Eagle HT Fifth-Wheel, North Point, Pinnacle, Seismic, and Seismic Luxury models. The Feather trailer adds a digital PWM solar controller and non-RV-C inverter.
Stepping up to the Overlander 4 brings four solar panels with two 100 amp-hour lithium self-heated batteries and a 60-amp MPPT solar controller. The system also has a 3,000-watt split-phase inverter charger and a DC/DC power converter. Jayco includes a battery monitor and an energy management system with a heavy-gauge steel battery enclosure.
At the top of the Jayco Overlander line sits the EXT, which has six Renogy 200-watt monocrystalline solar panels, six 12-volt 100 am-hour lithium-iron phosphate batteries, a 3,000-watt Pure Sine Wave inverter charger with a 50-amp bypass, a 600-amp battery monitor, and much more. It’s backed by a two-year warranty and has an optional generator feature to power external devices and equipment.
Beyond the Overlander series, the Jayco Swift RV comes with solar equipment built in. It has a 200-watt roof-mounted GoPower solar panel, a portable solar plug, and a 1,000-watt inverter. Based on the Ram ProMaster 3500 Window Van, the vehicle also offers a 9,350-pound towing capacity and a spacious floorplan with sleeping accommodations for up to four people.
